The Federal government says the recent outbreak of Bird flu has spread to five more states, besides Lagos and Kano, where the first cases were recorded.
The highly transmittable avian influenza viral disease, has now been reported in poultry animals, in Ogun, Delta, Rivers, Edo and Plateau states.
Addressing a press Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture ,Akinwunmi Adesina said the disease has not reached an epidemic state in Nigeria, adding that necessary steps are being taken to contain its spread in the country.
He said: “We are not in a state of any epidemic. Seven states have so far reported cases of the bird flu – Kano, Lagos, Ogun, Delta, Rivers, Edo and Plateau States. The most affected state has been Kano, where the initial case of the bird flu was found.”
