Akwa Ibom Stadium Listed For International Award

Akwa Ibom International stadium located in Uyo has been nominated for 2014 global award.
In a press statement released by Grzegorz Kaliciak, founder of   which keeps a database of stadia worldwide, the newly built stadium in Uyo, popularly known as “Nest of Champions” is among the venues nominated for the award.

“It is great to see a new stadium for Nigeria to be proud of. Its white exterior layer and illumination also make it stand out globally and become a true landmark for Uyo,” 

Officially opened on November 7, 2014 by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Akwa Ibom Stadium is set to be the new hub of sporting activities in Nigeria even as the Super Eagles and under-23, Dream Team VI have adopted the stadium as their new home ground.
Widely appraised as the most transparent award, stadium fans across the world have been accorded the opportunity to select their stadium of the Year.  
The Stadium Award is an annual event held every January and February by and, the two websites that are mainly dedicated to  stadia. This year's award is the fifth edition. Previous winners include Aviva Stadium (2010), PGE Arena Gdansk (2011), Gremio Arena (2012) and Ghelamco Arena (2013).
