Nigeria On The March Again

Nigeria on the march again....
on the march again...
looking for Mr President...
on the march again.....
Bla bla bla is our man oooo....

I'm sure some of you remember that campaign song
We are going to the polls again
Already there are small pockets of violence
Booing and jeering at campaign rallies
Slumming of words between  politicians
Alleged barring of foreign journalists...
The list is growing by the day

And you and I are sitting on the sidelines waiting for a miracle
Trying to wish in a President of our dreams
Wishing he would turn around our economy
Wishing our power sector will get powerful
Wishing the Boko Haram camp will turn into a tower of Babel
Wishing all our roads will be motor-able
Wishing we could have a servant leader...
Wish Wishing Wishes Wished

You wish or You want????????

Dream Team Avenges Defeat to Tunisia

The national U-23 football team, Dream Team VI yesterday trounced their Tunisian counterparts 3-0 to avenge the 3-5 defeat they suffered in the hands of the Tunisians four days ago.

The game, which started on a very high tempo saw coach Samson Siasia making four changes from the team that lost the first game, as new comers, Stanley Amuzie, Freedom Omofonma, Tonbara Tiongoli and Peter Onyekachi made their presence felt from the blast of the referee’s whistle.

Striker Onyekachi was a thorn in the flesh of the Tunisians putting them under so much pressure while Tonbara was a handful for the defense line of the opponents. The defense got more stability with the introduction of Stanley Amuzie who kept the Tunisian attackers at bay and was a force in attack.

In one of such moves, Peter Onyekachi was fouled in the 18 yard box of the Tunisians making the center referee to award a penalty which was converted by Oghenekaro Etebo in the 31st minute.

With the massive support from the few Nigerians led by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Dr. Joseph Omede and members of staff of the embassy at the El Menzah Stadium, the Dream Team VI took control of all departments of the game piling pressure but could not get any goal before the end of the first half.

On resumption of the second half, the Dream Team VI players continued from where they stopped in the first half as they pinned their opponents to their half of the field with mid field Marshall Azubuike Okechukwu combining well with Oghenekaro Etebo to put the Tunisians under pressure and in the 56th minute, striker Peter Onyekachi made his presence felt as he punished the Tunisians with the second goal of the game.

Coach Siasia took off Freedom Omofoman and brought in Savior Godwin, this change galvanised the Nigerian attack resulting in the Tunisians conceding another penalty after one of their defenders had handled the ball from a pull out by Stanley Amuzie but the resultant kick was played over the bar by Etebo in the 70th minute.

This did not dampen the spirit of the Dream Team VI players as they continued to pile pressure and in the 87th minute Godwin Savior put the icing on the cake with the third goal after running down the defense line of the Tunisians to release a shot which the goalkeeper had no answer to.

APC to Boycott BON-organised TV Debate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be not be featuring in the on-going electioneering public debates on national television and radio, being organized by the Broadcast Organizationof Nigeria (BON), because of the unhidden bias and campaign of calumny by some key organizers of the program, against the corporate political interest of the party (APC) and its candidates.

Garba Shehu, Director Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization (APCPCO) said in a press statement on Thursday in Abuja that the Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) powered debate was fraught with fundamental errors from the outset, by wearing the toga of government control, especially being composed mainly of agencies and allies of the incumbent People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) administration.

“A salutary inspection of the composition of NEGD brings into focus the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), National Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Africa Independent Television (AIT, owned by a PDP chieftain). And going by the avalanche of inflammatory statements, misinformation and blatant lies being propagated by some of these media against our Party and candidates contrary to the Koffi Annan brokered Abuja Peace Accord, and the failure of these aggressors to desist and apologize, have left the APC Campaign with no option than to steer clear of any premeditated smear campaign that could be inimical to our prospective electoral success,” Shehu said.

Stephen Keshi Back in Nigeria.

Super Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi, is back in Nigeria after spending some weeks on holiday in the United States with his family.

Keshi arrived Nigeria on Monday amidst speculations that he could be signing a new contract to continue as the national team handler in a couple of days’ time.

Keshi’s original contract with Nigeria expired in June 2014 after the World Cup in Brazil and attempts at getting a new one have lingered on ever since.

The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, which had earlier said they will be engaging an expatriate coach to take over from Coach Keshi has since jettisoned the plan as the Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, at different forums confirmed that the Big Boss will be allowed to continue on the job.

Keshi’s return to the country may not be unconnected to the many assignments before the national teams as qualifiers for the 2017 African Cup of Nations and the 2016 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) are set to begin.

In the absence of Keshi, Assistant Coach Daniel Amokachi led the home-based Eagles to two friendly games in the United Arab Emirates.

The Eagles, under Amokachi, narrowly lost 1-0 to a star-studded Ivorian team but bounced back to defeat Yemen 2-0 in Dubai days after.

INEC Snubs Dasuki, Ready For February Elections

In a swift reaction to the call for the postponement of the conduct of general elections in February by the National Security Adviser, NSA, Mr. Dasuki Sambo, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has reiterated its commitment to the conduct of the election in February.
Mr. Dasuki had made a call in a press briefing in London on Thursday for the postponement of general elections in February. According to him, the postponement will enable INEC distribute Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, to registered voters who are yet to collect their cards.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega in his reaction, said the commission remains committed to go ahead with the elections as planned. Jega made this known on Friday at the Launch of Mitigation of Violence in Elections (MOVE) organized by the International Foundation for Electoral System, IFES. He insisted that while he would not respond to media reports of Mr. Dasuki’s call, he could confirm authoritatively that INEC is determined to hold elections in February.
According to Jega, over 40 million cards had already been made available, while assuring that the remaining ones will be delivered before the end of January.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has condemned the call by the presidential Security Adviser. Reacting to the call by Mr. Dasuki, the Situation Room described the suggestion as an unnecessary interference in the independence
of INEC as guaranteed by the 1999 constitution, stating that dates for the elections can only be set by INEC.

Civil Society Group berates Gov. Fayose on Advert Against Buhari

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has grossly berated the front page advertisement published on selected national newspapers on Monday January 19, 2015 which was credited to the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Ayodele Fayose with the banner headline “Nigerians Be Warned”.
The situation room is made up of Civil Society Organization working in support of credible and transparent elections in Nigeria and include such groups as policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), CLEEN Foundation, Action Aid Nigeria, Centre for Democracy and Development, Enough is Enough Nigeria, Wangonet, Partners for Electoral Reform, Youth Initiative for Advocacy,  Growth & Advancement (YIAGA), Development Dynamics, Human Right Monitor, Election Monitor, Reclaim Monitor Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and several others.

Reacting to the advertisement on a Sahara Reporter,  the group described the advertisement as being in extreme bad taste and falls within the category of hate speech prohibited under the Electoral Act and other known international Laws that forbid the publication of hate speech. Expressing its disappointment on the publication which actually emanated from a highly placed political office holder in the country, the group firmly established the dire implication of the advertisement as its negates the Abuja Accord recently signed by the presidential candidates and leaders of political parties for the election.
